WEFT | ART INSTALLATION
A look over the work of Manuel Jacinto Craftsman
A contemporary approach, in the form of installation, of the traditional, and almost forgotten, "Covos de Chaiço" an empty and ovoid object, built in willow sticks of varying diameters, which intertwined, creates a rigid and resistant frame, used as trap fish, a practice once widely used in extensive beds of the river Mira.
The PIA, under the direction of Pedro Domingues, and together with the local community, occupied in Artistic Residency at Santa Clara-a-Velha, the space that welcomed the Solstice Festival, organized by PédeXumbo - Association for Music and Dance Promotion.
A piece inspired by the work of local craftsman Manuel Jacinto, one of the few ancients that still keeps alive the knowledge and practice of this basketry technique.
Also intervened in this weft João Tristão, Patrícia Gonçalves, Paulo Claudino, not forgetting the wisdom of this technique from Sr. Chico Cesteiro and memories in the form of illustrated tales of Sr. Leonel, and for which PIA leaves it's special thanks.
